Measures on the development of electrical industry discussed

On May 6, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting on the development of the electrical industry.

Over the past five years, 465 million dollars were invested in the industry and 163 new projects were launched. Production has quadrupled, and exports have tripled. Most importantly, the number of jobs has doubled, reaching 32,000.

At the same time, there are a lot of unused opportunities in the sphere. The New Uzbekistan Development Strategy sets a goal to double production of electrical goods and triple exports by 2026.

Important tasks in this direction were discussed at the meeting.

In particular, it is planned to launch 86 projects worth 250 million dollars this year. The head of the state underlined the necessity to study the demand of the population and the composition of import, to produce the corresponding products and form new projects in the regions.

New deposits are being discovered in our country and copper reserves are expanding. According to calculations, the production of copper in the next few years will increase by 2 times. In line with this, facilities for processing 90 thousand tons of copper will be created in a new copper cluster in Ahangaran region within the framework of 12 projects worth USD 168 million. The enterprises participating in this cluster will be given an opportunity to buy copper under long-term contracts at a discount to stock exchange prices. The President gave instructions on organizational and financial aspects of the cluster.

As you know, alternative energy is developing in our country. New projects in this area require components worth at least $1 billion. Taking this into account it is necessary to expand the localization of components, it was noted at the meeting.

There is a task to work out a special program for installation of water heating systems in social institutions and street lighting based on alternative energy sources.

The industry has a great export potential. For example, neighboring countries annually buy electrical products worth billions of dollars. However, the share of goods produced in Uzbekistan in their imports is small.

It was noted that the export of the industry could be brought up to 700 million dollars this year and to 1 billion dollars next year. To this end, it was instructed to establish a system of processing in the customs territory on the example of household appliances.

Для внедрения инноваций в отрасль и расширения экспорта планируется выделить 20 миллиардов сумов в Электротехнический фонд.

It is planned to allocate 20 billion soums to the Electrotechnical Fund to introduce innovations in the industry and expand exports.

Instructions on setting up the Design and Engineering Center at the Uzeltekhsanoat Association and Research and Development centers at the Elektroapparat, Technopark, Artel and Uzkabel companies, attracting qualified foreign and local specialists to them have been given.

The meeting touched upon personnel training. In the next three years the sector will need 4 thousand specialists with higher education and 14 thousand workers with secondary education.

The Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education has been instructed to revise and improve the electrical engineering curriculum. It was decided to assign the Tashkent radio technical college, Samarkand and Chirchik service technical colleges, and Fergana electrical technical college to the Uzeltekhsanoat association.
