Arab company Masdar will build 3 new solar power plants in Uzbekistan with a total capacity of almost 900 MW

A $205 million financing package has been formed for the construction of new stations in Jizzakh, Samarkand and Surkhandarya regions.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has formed a $205 million financing package for Masdar, known as the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, to build three new solar plants in Uzbekistan with a total installed capacity of almost 900 MW. This was reported to UzNews.uz in the EBRD office.
The projects are expected to be co-financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
These steps are intended to support the construction and commissioning of Nur Jizzakh (220 MW solar PV plant in Jizzakh region), Nur Samarkand (220 MW solar PV plant in Samarkand region) and Nur Sherabad (457 MW solar PV plant in Surkhandarya region).
It is expected that after commissioning, the stations will increase the total generation of electricity to 2,200 GW, provide electricity to more than 1 million households in Uzbekistan, and reduce annual carbon emissions by 1,223,300 tons.
It is emphasized that in order to support these projects, in addition to the above loans, the EBRD will provide three revolving credit lines in the amount of up to $78 million guaranteed by Masdar.
The projects contribute to the implementation of a long-term decarbonization strategy that has become a product of the joint work of the EBRD and the government of Uzbekistan. The strategy aims to support plans to achieve carbon neutrality in the energy sector by 2050.
